The Fed Launches A Facebook Page... And The Result Is Not What It Had Expected
The comments to the Fed's new Facebook page would be hilarious if they weren't also tragic.

Zynga "analysts"
Zynga shares tanked 40% earlier this week after disappointing earnings, revenues and bookings. 21 Wall Street analysts follow Zynga, whose shares traded above $14 earlier this year, and were trading above $5 Wednesday, before plummeting to below $3 in the after-hours trading session.
Of the 21 analysts listed below, 20 had a Buy or Hold recommendation, with price targets ranging from $17 to $5. In hindsight, all 20 were not just wrong--but outrageously wrong, presumably costing clients billions of dollars. A few publicly apologized for their wrong calls.
But wait. Of the 21 analysts, one got it right, giving a recommendation of "Underweight" for shares of ZNGA. It must be some genius phenom analyst, right?
Sort of. The 20 wrong-call analysts had another thing in common: they were all human. The lone "analyst" who got it right? Why, "she" was a computer model: EVA Dimensions. See for yourself.

Apparently, HAL has a girlfriend who's equally prescient.
As for the "smartest guys in the room" (and they are all guys), I'm sure their performance for analyzing Facebook will undoubtedly be scintillating.

JPM, Facebook, Gold … And The Potential of A Titanic Financial Market Event
Don't say I didn't tell you so. More heads are going to roll, and more markets are going to implode. The dominos will fall as the incessant manipulation will catalyze the "contagion effect" of metastasizing rot.

Secret Service interrogates 13-year-old over Facebook post
Thanks to Kitty for finding this news item. The take-away message? Be careful what you post on Facebook--and what you blog about. Your message may be "mistaken" for something threatening--even if you're still in middle school. Your tax dollars hard at work...

I posted this on my Facebook profile on a normal whim:
Look at the date and S & P 500 level: I called the top almost to a tee. Thank God I was right. I forgot Facebook is different than the finance message boards. Because had I been wrong, I would have received a lot of hate mail. Facebook is pretty much an open kimono, so lesson learned. Be careful what you post because others DO read your ramblings.
For example, here's a response I got today: "I love reading your updates and not understanding one word of them."
At least SOMEONE is reading my ramblings. :-)
Gregory Nguyen S & P 500 at 920 and Dow Jones Industrials look tired--a pullback could be coming. Time to step aside and lock in some profits. Due your own due diligence. Good luck to all.

Drought in California
Despite heavy rains so far in 2009, California has experienced a devastating 3-year drought. Many farmers from the central valley have let crops die, or chose to irrigate with water costing $600/acre vs. the normal $30/acre.
From Fiona Ma, San Francisco City Councilwoman on her Facebook profile:
My translation: buy agriculture (crops, fertilizer), and water companies--equipment (pumps, filters) and technology (desalinization).

At the San Luis Dam with a ton of folks. We need water reform. Farms are drying up, we r losing jobs & economic $. Awaiting the Governor.
